The art of Kalamkari dates back to centuries ago. The making of Kalamkari itself involves more than 20 steps. The art-form usually uses earthy tones. This particular art comes in two forms: Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam. To make this piece the Machilipatnam form is used. This involves artisans using blocks to print the design by hand using naturally obtained dyes. The blocks used to create such beautiful patterns and intricate motifs are carved by hand.
